My wife and I are dealing with the heat of summer in Texas so we’ve been on a smoothie kick lately. I can’t recommend this mango kale smoothie enough! The best part is that it’s less than 350 calories per serving.

Variations to this Recipe

I really wanted to make the best possible kale mango smoothie out there. The big challenge though was trying to keep it under 300 calories! If you don’t mind a few extra calories, here are a few additions you can make:

  1. Banana – Adding a banana will make this smoothie creamier and it’ll add a bit of natural sweetness! Bananas are loaded with potassium and vitamin B6.
  2. Greek yogurt – Adding ¼ to ½ cup of greek yogurt is one of the best ways to add protein to smoothies without protein powder.
  3. Coconut milk – We wanted to give this smoothie a tropical, citrusy flair so we went with orange juice, but you could definitely give it a splash of coconut milk! Coconut milk is one of the best milks for smoothies!
  4. Spinach – If you don’t have any kale, you can add spinach! Spinach blends more easily than kale and is a great source of vitamin K. You can also check out our list of healthy spinach smoothies!

4 Tips for Making The Best Mango Smoothie with Kale

Over the last couple of years my wife and I have made hundreds of different smoothies! We make smoothies at least 4-5x a week and have written 150+ articles all about smoothies. Here are four quick tips to help you make the best mango kale smoothie possible:

  1. Soak your kale – I recommend soaking your kale in water for 30 minutes before you make your smoothie. You definitely don’t have to do this, but it will soften up the kale and make it blend way better.
  2. Blend the greens first – One expert trick is to blend your kale by itself with your liquid smoothie base. This will get it thoroughly chopped up into an almost green juice. Then add the rest of your ingredients! The last thing you want is stringy kale bits in your smoothie.
  3. Use a high powered blender – Using a strong blender is essential to making great smoothies! We’ve done tons of blender reviews, but our favorite blender for green smoothies is the Vitamix E310. This smoothie doesn’t have any ice so it’s also one of our favorite NutriBullet weight loss smoothies!
  4. Make them in advance – If you want to drink smoothies every day it can be a hassle to make them fresh. Make a big batch on Monday morning and store leftover smoothies in the fridge for the week! You can also freeze smoothies to save for 3-4 months!
