Tips for Making Kale Smoothies

We’ve made a hundreds of smoothies with kale over the years! My wife and I have the experience to help you make the best kale smoothies possible. Here are some of our top tips for you that we’ve picked up along the way!

  1. Soak your kale – I recommend soaking your kale in water to soften it up before blending in your smoothie. Put it in a big bowl for 30-60 minutes and submerge your kale in water.
  2. Add ingredients that balance – Kale is bitter and can make smoothies a bit runny or foamy. Fruits like bananas, avocado, and mango can help offset the kale in a smoothie!
  3. Use milk – I highly recommend using some kind of milk as your smoothie liquid! This is the best way to make creamier smoothies! I personally like using oat milk or almond milk for kale smoothies because the nutty and slightly sweet flavor can hep.
  4. Use a high powered blender – Using a strong blender is essential to making great kale smoothies! You want a blender that can really grind up the kale. A weaker blender will end up with chunks and stringy bits of kale.

Kale is a great ingredient for fiber as well which is why a couple of these recipes are also on our list of high fiber smoothie recipes! We also have a list of green smoothies if you want to branch out from just kale.
