Banana – Almost all of our smoothie recipes have bananas because they’re great for making smoothies creamy. They’re healthy and loaded with potassium.

Oats – Oats are a great way to make smoothie thicker and give them some extra healthy carbs. They’re great for pre or post workout nutrition.

Cauliflower – We recently started adding riced cauliflower to our smoothies and it’s become one of our favorite vegetables for smoothies. You get the extra nutrition of cauliflower without the calories and it helps make smoothies more filling.

Protein powder – Protein powder is optional, but highly recommended! It’ll add 20g of protein to this smoothie. You can use any flavor, but we recommend chocolate.

Almond milk – Almond milk is the best liquid for smoothies! It helps make smoothies richer and makes smoother smoothies.

Hemp seeds – Hemp seeds are super healthy and great for smoothies! They’re a good source of fiber and protein and are loaded with healthy fats.

Flax seeds – Flax seeds will also add protein and fiber to your smoothie! They’ll give a bit of nutty flavor and omega-3 fatty acids. I’d recommend grinding them down into powder before putting them in your smoothie.

Cinnamon – Cinnamon is one of our favorite ways to spice up a smoothie. Just a teaspoon will give a great hint of fall flavor.

Ways to Customize this Smoothie

My wife and I tested this weight loss banana smoothie recipe a few times before we made it final. If you’re missing any of the ingredients above or want to jazz it up, here are a few ways to customize it.

  • Greek yogurt – If you’re wanting to add more protein to smoothies then greek yogurt is a great option. Adding 1/4 to 1/2 a cup will give you 5-10g of more protein.
  • Chia seeds – Chia seeds are the best substitute for hemp or flax seeds. There are all kinds of different seeds for smoothies, but these are some of the best. They’re high in protein and fiber – making them one of the best superfoods for smoothies. That’s why they’re super popular in our list of high fiber smoothies.
  • Spinach – If you want to add some more veggies to this smoothie, you can add some spinach. It’s one of the best greens for smoothies because it blends super easily.

Tips for Making Banana Weight Loss Smoothies

My wife and I have made tons of smoothies over the years and trust me, they haven’t all been good. We’ve made tons of mistakes, but we’ve refined our craft. These are a few quick tips for making the best banana weight loss smoothies!

  • Freeze + cut your fruit – I definitely recommend using frozen bananas in your smoothies. Colder smoothies will be more refreshing. I’d also be sure to cut your bananas into smaller chunks before freezing.
  • Use a high wattage blender – The more powerful the blender, the smoother your smoothie will be. It’s essential if you want a creamy smoothie that is chunk-free. We’ve tested out countless blenders and our favorite is the Vitamix E310
  • Meal prep some smoothies – I think meal prepping smoothies is a great hack to save time and make it more convenient during the week. We’ll make a big batch, store the smoothies in the fridge, and drink one fresh each morning.
