6 Tips for Making Paleo Smoothie Recipes

I’ve tested dozens of recipes and strategies for making great paleo smoothie recipes! Over the past couple of months I’ve been writing down a list of tips to help you make the paleo friendly smoothies possible.

  1. Load up on greens – Load up on non-starchy vegetables for smoothies like spinach and kale to add bulk and nutrients without extra calories. Check out our list of spinach smoothies or kale smoothie ideas for more recommendations!
  2. Use dairy free milks – Opt for unsweetened almond milk or coconut milk instead of higher calorie options. We have a list of the best milk for smoothies you can check out! We also have a list of almond milk smoothies if that’s your favorite.
  3. Go for low GI fruits – Choose low glycemic fruits like berries or green apples to keep sugar content in check while adding natural sweetness. These will help you make low sugar smoothies and they can be healthy ways to sweeten a smoothie.
  4. Add nuts – Adding a handful of nuts or seeds will give you healthy fats and added texture. This is a great way to make smoothies more filling!
  5. Watch your portions – Be mindful of portion sizes and avoid excessive use of calorie-dense ingredients like nut butters or coconut oil. You can also make a big batch and store smoothies for later! If you do it the right way, smoothies last in the fridge.
  6. Use protein powder – If you want to make high protein smoothies, you can try adding protein powder. It’s the easiest way to add protein to your smoothies!
