Ingredients for the Best Avocado Weight Loss Smoothie
Avocado – Avocados are our not-so-secret trick to making the best green smoothies. Avocados will help prevent a smoothie from getting foamy. They add great healthy fats!
Banana – Most of our smoothie recipes have bananas because they are the best fruit for smoothies. They’re great for making smoothies creamy and they’re also loaded with potassium. If you don’t have any, check out our list of banana substitutes for smoothies.
Spinach – Spinach is one of our favorite healthy greens for smoothies because it has no flavor, blends super easily, and it packed with nutrients like Vitamin K, A, fiber, and folic acid. Spinach is the main ingredient in our green goddess smoothie and chocolate green smoothie!
Almond butter – If you’re trying to make smoothie thicker, then almond butter is the answer. We like to add a tablespoon or two to give the smoothie some healthy fats, balance out the smoothie, and give it a rich nutty undertone of flavor.
Hemp seeds – Hemp seeds are one of the best seeds for smoothies! They’re high in protein and a good source of fiber and protein. You’ll hardly even notice the flavor.
Honey – Honey is great for smoothies because it’s natural, not overly sweet, and has health benefits like boosting your immune system.
Almond milk – Almond milk is our favorite liquid smoothie base because it’s thick, creamy, and helps make smoothies smoother.
Ways to Customize this Smoothie
My wife and I tested this weight loss avocado smoothie recipe several times to make sure we had it dialed in. You may not have all of the ingredients above, but we’ve included a few recommended substitutions and other ways to customize it.
- Blueberries – Blueberries are fantastic in smoothies because they’re super high in antioxidants. They also are incredibly low in sugar so they are great for diabetic smoothies that need lower GI fruits.
- Vanilla extract – Vanilla extract is a great way to make smoothies sweeter without adding sugar. It’s an extract so a teaspoon or two will be enough to make a difference in this avocado weight loss smoothie.
- Chia seeds – If you don’t have hemp seeds then chia seeds are the best substitute. They’re rich in fiber and protein – making them one of the best superfoods for smoothies. That’s why they’re so common in our list of high fiber smoothies for constipation.
- Greek yogurt – If you need to put more protein in smoothies then greek yogurt is the best option. Adding 1/3 cup will give you 7-8g more protein – making this weight loss avocado smoothie even more powerful.

Tips for Making Avocado Weight Loss Smoothies
My wife and I love making smoothies. We’ve made countless mistakes over the years, but a whole lot of practice makes perfect. Here are a few quick tips for making the best avocado weight loss smoothie you can.
- Freeze and cut your fruit – I highly recommend using frozen avocados and bananas in your smoothies. Frozen fruit will give you colder smoothies that taste way more refreshing. Be sure to cut your fruit into smaller chunks before freezing so they’re easier to blend.
- Use a powerful blender – The stronger the blender the more smooth your smoothie will be. The last thing you want is a bunch of chunks or stringy spinach. I’ve tested countless blenders and our favorite is the Vitamix E310.
- Meal prep some smoothies – If you don’t want to have to make a new smoothie every day cause of the hassle then you should make a big batch! We’ll meal prep smoothies on Sunday, store the smoothies in the fridge, and drink one fresh every morning.
